Normal haematological values: sex difference in neutrophil count.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Blood counts were performed on 100 male and 100 female staff to establish normal ranges for our hospital. Neutrophil counts were found to be on average 0.66 times 10-9/1 (660/mm-3) higher in women than in men. Statistically this difference was highly significant and was not due to the fact that many of the women were taking oral contraceptives. The neutrophil counts of the men and women were also on average 0.50 times 10-9/1 (500/mm-3) greater in the afternoon than in the morning. A correlation was observed between the neutrpphil and the monocyte counts.

Thus, it is a potentially life-threatening condition that requires a medical emergency. متن کاملHaematological profile in healthy urban population (8 to 70 years of age).
Haematological profile for 17 constituents of blood were determined in 998 healthy school children (8-19 years old) and 2246 healthy adult persons (20-70 years old) residing permanently or at least 5 years in a defined geographic region of Zagreb, Croatia. Physiological variations corresponding to age and sex were studied as the most important factors affecting biological variation in haematolo...
متن کاملSex Difference in Normal Neutrophil Count
SIR,-I wish to draw attention to a minor inaccuracy in the valuable study on normal haemnatological values by Drs. Barbara J. Bain and J. M. Englad (8 February, p. 306). The significantly lower neutrophil counts in women than in men found by Allen and Alexander' were confined to the postmenopausal age groups and were not a feature of the whole age range 18-65. In fact, in a larger series of blo...
متن کاملA pilot study of the reference values for the commoner haematological and biochemical parameters in Saudi nationals.
A study of 16 haematological and 24 biochemical parameters in healthy, adult, male, volunteer Saudi blood donors was made, and enabled a preliminary determination of the reference values for these parameters to be made for Saudi Arabia. Statistically significant low means were observed for all the haematological parameters except the mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration which was raised a...
متن کاملEvaluation of Haematological Profile in Early Diagnosis of Clinically Suspected Cases of Neonatal Sepsis
Early diagnosis of neonatal septicemia is difficult due to lack of specific clinical and laboratory findings. Blood culture is considered gold standard for the diagnosis, but is very time consuming. Hence most of the paediatricians administer antibiotics at the least suspicion of sepsis. To overcome this, several rapid haematological tests have been evaluated for their usefulness in rapid diagn...
